Everything in Mina the Hollower Ossex City, the game's central hub: every shop, every key NPC, how to unlock the Guild Hall and Underlab, how to reach Panino's secret store, and a first-visit checklist so you don’t miss anything on your way out.
Ossex City is Mina the Hollower's main hub, sitting at the center of Tenebrous Isle and functions as your permanent home base throughout the game. All major vendors, upgrade services, and story-critical NPCs are clustered around its central fountain and main street. Crucially, Ossex is also a safe zone — no enemies spawn inside the city proper, making it the ideal place to plan, upgrade, and restock between regions.
The city contains up to 15 trinkets obtainable by purchase or NPC reward, making it “home to a massive chunk of your arsenal” according to the NeonLightsMedia trinket guide. Many of those trinkets are gated by story progress, so Ossex quietly expands its inventory as you clear the island’s six regions.

Do these in order on your very first time in Ossex. Each unlocks something critical you’ll want for the rest of the game.

Ossex contains five distinct vendor types. Each serves a different upgrade track.
| Vendor | Location | What It Sells | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legovich’s Arms (Smithy) | Red building, City Centre | Your starting weapon (upgraded tier), the other two starting weapons, Battery Buster, Guardian Casket | Battery Buster and Guardian Casket only appear after you discover them in the world |
| Emporium (Bag Shop) | South of central fountain, rose emblem | Trinket Bag (pouch) upgrades — each expands how many trinkets you can equip simultaneously | Buy every upgrade as soon as you can afford it; more slots = more power |
| Trinket Bazaar | Multiple stalls in Ossex | Up to 15 trinkets via purchase or NPC rewards; many gated by story progress | Inventory expands as you clear regions |
| Guild Hall / Underlab (Drillhardt) | Guild Hall, after quest | Isle Map (500 Bones), additional Underlab upgrades | Locked until Rhene is rescued and Drillhardt is unearthed |
| Panino’s Secret Shop | Bowery, west of City Centre | Dummy Cache, Bridge Weaver, Watchful Eye, Guardian Casket, Battery Buster | Requires specific trinket loadout to access; see Panino section |
Legovich stocks a curated inventory based on your playthrough state. He always carries the upgraded form of your chosen starting weapon, and will add other weapons as you progress.
| Item | Availability |
|---|---|
| Your starting weapon (enhanced tier) | From first visit |
| The other two starting weapons (Nightstar, Whip, Vesper — whichever you didn’t pick) | From first visit |
| Battery Buster | After discovering it in the world |
| Guardian Casket | After discovering it in the world (also sold by Panino) |
The Guild Hall is the most important building in Ossex for progression. It starts blocked and in disrepair, but completing the three-step NPC quest transforms it into the Underlab headquarters — your primary upgrade shop and the gateway to the Underlab fast-travel / enemy-reset system.
The main entrance is blocked. Circle around the building, hop over the barriers, and smash the crates blocking the side door. Once inside, burrow through the far wall to reach the main hall. You find Muriel, who tells you her teammates Rhene and Drillhardt are missing.
Rhene is held in the Rebel Barracks in the Southern Outskirts, south of Ossex. The rescue involves a multi-room fight sequence where Rhene uses bombs to help clear a path. Escort her back to the Guild Hall to complete her arc.
After Rhene and Muriel repair the hall, the room looks visually different. On the left side of the floor, you’ll notice a dirt patch with a strange green object sticking out. Burrow directly under it to unearth Drillhardt, who has been buried the entire time. He immediately opens the Underlab shop.
The Underlab is more than an upgrade shop. It’s the game’s primary Bone-farming mechanism. Entering any Underlab entrance across Tenebrous Isle resets all overworld enemies and items, allowing you to farm the same enemies repeatedly. The most efficient farming loops route through an Underlab entrance located near a dense enemy cluster.
Several NPCs in and around Ossex gate important upgrades, equipment, and story content. Missing their quests on a first playthrough is common.
| NPC | Location | What They Unlock | How to Trigger |
|---|---|---|---|
| Muriel | Guild Hall (via side entrance) | Starts the Rhene + Drillhardt quest chain; Guild Hall restoration | Burrow through the far wall inside the side-entered Guild Hall |
| Rhene | Rebel Barracks, Southern Outskirts | Guild Hall restoration; unlocks Drillhardt and Underlab shop | Rescue her in Rebel Barracks and escort back to Ossex |
| Drillhardt | Buried in Guild Hall floor (left side) | Underlab shop, Isle Map (500 Bones), additional upgrades | Burrow up through the dirt patch on the left side of the restored Guild Hall |
| Elizabeth | Northeast of Ossex, past the Courtyard | 250-Bone loan on first meeting; repay 1,000 Bones to unlock Deboning Wand | Compliment her skull when prompted; return and repay the debt later |
| Trinket vendors | Throughout Ossex (Trinket Bazaar) | Up to 15 trinkets via purchase or reward; some gated by story flags | Browse shops; some vendors only appear or expand after clearing certain regions |
| Panino | Bowery, west of City Centre | High-tier trinkets (Dummy Cache, Bridge Weaver, Watchful Eye) + late-game weapons | Requires specific trinket access; see Panino section for full unlock steps |
Elizabeth is one of the easiest-to-miss high-value NPCs in the game. She’s located just northeast of Ossex past the Courtyard — easy to walk past if you’re heading straight into the first region. When you talk to her, complimenting her skull triggers a conversation that ends with her giving you 250 Bones as a loan.
The real reward comes later: repay 1,000 Bones back to Elizabeth and she unlocks the Deboning Wand, an item central to optimized Bone farming. Most farming guides list Elizabeth as a top early priority.
Panino runs a hidden vendor in the Bowery, a sub-area directly west of Ossex City Centre. His shop sells some of the strongest equipment in the game — but reaching it requires a specific trinket setup that most players won’t have on their first pass through the area.
You need a Wisp that floats alongside Mina, such as Keri. This functions as a key item for passing certain checks in the Bowery route.
The route to Panino includes a Vial Lock that requires a Primed Vial Pouch to pass. Acquire this from the Trinket Bazaar or as an early trinket reward.
Head west from Ossex City Centre into the Bowery. Cross the gap (the Wisp helps with the floating check), grab the rope, and pass through the Vial Lock.
| Item | Type | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Dummy Cache | Trinket | Creates a decoy that draws enemy attention; useful for crowd control and boss phase management |
| Bridge Weaver | Trinket | Creates temporary bridge/platform segments; unlocks movement routes not otherwise accessible |
| Watchful Eye | Trinket | Awareness/detection upgrade; helps locate hidden items and secret passages |
| Guardian Casket | Weapon | Late-game defensive weapon archetype; also available from Legovich after discovery |
| Battery Buster | Weapon | S-tier community weapon; the top damage dealer for most builds; also available from Legovich |
Ossex has more hidden content than it appears at first glance. Three documented secrets stand out as high-value finds.
The Guild Hall’s front is sealed. The side entrance is visible, but the actual entry requires burrowing through a far wall inside — a subtle prompt that easy to miss. This burrow wall leads directly to Muriel and the start of the most important NPC questline in the game.
After Rhene and Muriel restore the Guild Hall, a dirt patch appears on the left side of the room. A strange green object pokes out. Burrowing under it unearths Drillhardt, who has been buried inside his own guild hall the whole time. Easily missed: if you look at the room without burrowing you see only the restored decor.
Technically just outside Ossex in the Bowery sub-area, Panino’s shop is the city’s biggest secret. It sells two of the game’s most powerful weapons before you’d normally encounter them. The access requirements (Keri + Primed Vial Pouch) are obtainable early with focused trinket farming.
Beyond these three, Ossex contains hidden Kears (the game’s collectible children characters), breakable walls in the city outskirts, and multiple burrow-accessible sub-rooms not marked on any early map. Once you have the Isle Map, revisiting Ossex’s edges is worthwhile.
Ossex is not a static hub. Its inventory and accessible areas expand at several key story milestones.
| Milestone | What Changes in Ossex |
|---|---|
| Arrive in Ossex (start) | Legovich’s Arms open; Emporium open; Trinket Bazaar has initial stock; Guild Hall is blocked |
| Enter Guild Hall via side entrance | Muriel is met; Rhene quest begins |
| Rescue Rhene from Rebel Barracks | Guild Hall visually restored; Drillhardt becomes unearth-able |
| Unearth Drillhardt | Underlab shop opens; Isle Map (500 Bones) available; enemy-reset farming system active |
| Clear each region (Queensbury, Bayou, etc.) | New trinkets appear in Trinket Bazaar; some NPC rewards unlock |
| Unlock Panino with correct trinkets | High-tier trinkets and late-game weapons available early from Panino |
| Discover Battery Buster / Guardian Casket in world | These weapons also appear in Legovich’s shop |
Ossex City is the main hub town in Mina the Hollower, located at the center of Tenebrous Isle. It contains all major shops (Legovich’s Arms smithy, trinket vendors, the Emporium bag shop, and the Guild Hall Underlab office), key NPCs, and serves as the safe area you return to between regions.
The Guild Hall’s front door is blocked. Go around to the side, hop over the barriers, smash the crates blocking the side door, then burrow through the far wall to enter and meet Muriel. To fully unlock the Underlab shop, rescue Rhene from the Rebel Barracks south of Ossex, bring her back to the Guild Hall, then burrow up through the dirt patch on the left side of the restored hall to unearth Drillhardt.
Panino’s secret shop is in the Bowery, just west of Ossex City Centre. To reach it, you need a floating Wisp trinket (such as Keri) and the Primed Vial Pouch to pass a Vial Lock. Once unlocked, Panino sells Guardian Casket, Battery Buster, Dummy Cache, Bridge Weaver, and Watchful Eye.
Legovich sells the upgraded version of your starting weapon, the other two starting weapons you did not choose, plus Battery Buster and Guardian Casket once they are discovered in the world. Exact upgrade tier Bone costs are not yet published in community databases.
Elizabeth is an NPC located northeast of Ossex past the Courtyard. Complimenting her skull gives you a 250-Bone loan. Repaying 1,000 Bones unlocks the Deboning Wand — a key item for Bone farming. Many players prioritize finding her early.
Up to 15 trinkets are obtainable in Ossex City alone, through purchases and NPC rewards. Many are gated by story progress, so new trinkets appear as you advance through the game’s regions.
Ossex evolves in three main ways: the Guild Hall opens up as you rescue Rhene and unearth Drillhardt (unlocking the Underlab shop and Isle Map); more trinkets and equipment appear in the Trinket Bazaar as you clear regions; and Panino’s secret shop unlocks once you have the right trinket loadout.
The Underlab is an underground network accessible from the Guild Hall and from Underlab entrances scattered across Tenebrous Isle. Entering any Underlab entrance resets all overworld enemies and item drops, making it the core of efficient Bone farming. Polygon recommends placing yourself near a dense enemy cluster, then ducking into a nearby Underlab entrance between farm runs.
The Isle Map costs 500 Bones from Drillhardt at the Underlab shop in Ossex’s Guild Hall. It lets you view the full Tenebrous Isle map at any checkpoint. You must first rescue Rhene and unearth Drillhardt before this shop opens.
