The best Mina the Hollower builds ranked by the community — trinket synergies for every weapon, boss-rush and exploration loadouts, the most overpowered combinations found so far, and how your kit should evolve from early to late game.
Mina the Hollower has five main weapons, each with a distinct identity. The Mina the Hollower builds below represent the community’s consensus on what works best. Build tier does not equal fun tier — Guardian Casket and Blaststrike Maul both have devoted fans.
| Tier | Weapon | Archetype | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | Battery Buster | Buster Blaster — hybrid melee/ranged burst | Medium |
| S | Whisper & Vesper | Dagger Storm — high risk, maximum DPS | Hard |
| A | Nightstar | Whip Knight — safe midrange control | Easy |
| B | Guardian Casket | Tank Casket — parry and sustain | Medium |
| C | Blaststrike Maul | Bomber Maul — huge hits, slow execution | Hard |

Battery Buster is a hybrid weapon: melee attacks charge an internal battery, which you spend on powerful ranged shots. The Burst Shot upgrade transforms it into one of the highest single-hit damage tools in the game. The archetype’s core loop is charge → reposition → fire — your trinket kit exists to make that loop faster and safer.
Enter melee range and land 3–5 hits to build battery charge. Immediately burrow or air dash to reposition. Surface at mid-range and fire charged shots. For bosses: wait for an opening, dive in to charge, escape, then unload from safety. The Burst Shot at full charge with high Attack Bone Ups can delete boss phases in a single window.
Use a utility or straight-shot sidearm that does not disrupt charge rhythm. Ranged sidearms that control space vertically (Drill Driver) work well to handle enemies above you while you charge.
Whisper & Vesper are ultra-fast short-range daggers designed for aggressive, precise play. The core loop is burrow in → land 6–8 rapid stabs → burrow out before retaliation. The DPS ceiling is the highest in the game but demands constant correct positioning. Community-described as "high risk, high reward."
Burrow toward the boss. Surface directly on top of the hitbox. Rapid-fire stabs. Watch for telegraphed attacks. Burrow immediately when an attack is incoming. With Chain Capacitor, your charge builds in 2–3 burrow-in sessions — unleash the empowered sidearm between burrow cycles to add burst damage on top of the raw dagger DPS.
Use a burst or area-control sidearm that compensates for the daggers’ short reach. Wide-angle or upward shots let you poke safely when you cannot safely enter melee range. Chain Capacitor makes any powerful sidearm significantly better due to how quickly it charges.
Nightstar’s flail has the longest reach of any weapon and excellent sweep coverage. The build’s identity is safe midrange control: swing from far enough that most enemy attacks cannot hit you, burrow to reposition when they close distance. Consistently recommended as the best weapon for first-time players and blind runs.
Stay at flail distance and swing in wide arcs. When an enemy moves in, burrow and surface behind or beside them. Float with Keri to attack from overhead angles that many enemies cannot cover. For bosses: the key discipline is not going in too close — Nightstar’s reach is its advantage, and you lose that advantage the moment you enter dagger range.
Pair with a precise or vertically-aimed sidearm (Drill Driver) to cover enemies above you during platforming sections. A ranged sidearm also gives you a safe poke option when you do not want to commit to a full swing animation.
Guardian Casket is the shield weapon. Its core mechanic is blocking and parrying attacks — a successful parry creates a counter-attack window with enhanced damage. The build stacks HP, Defense, and sustain trinkets to absorb mistakes while an offensive sidearm provides ranged chip damage between parry windows.
Hold shield and walk into attacks. On a parry, immediately counter. Between parry windows, use your offensive ranged sidearm to maintain damage pressure from a safe distance. The playstyle is slower and more deliberate than other builds — Tank Casket players often describe it as "fighting on your own terms."
Pair with the strongest offensive ranged sidearm you have. Guardian Casket outputs low damage on its own between parries, so the sidearm carries much of your DPS. Wide-area sidearms are particularly useful for multi-enemy rooms.

Blaststrike Maul is the slowest weapon in the game but deals massive damage per hit. The Boom Charge upgrade enables a charged explosion swing that can delete large portions of a boss’s health bar in a single committed hit. The build requires patience and precise timing; the payoff is some of the most satisfying hit feedback in the game.
Burrow to a safe position. Wait for a boss attack to end, creating a window. Surface and immediately commit to a Boom Charge swing. Burrow back out before the next attack. The rhythm is extremely deliberate — Bomber Maul demands you never swing during an active attack pattern, only in clear openings. With Shock Flint, each Boom Charge can delete 20–30% of a boss’s health bar.
Most players maintain two loadouts and swap between them at checkpoints. Once you have 6 trinket slots, you have enough room to run a complete exploration kit and a complete boss kit separately.
Swap to this kit whenever you are exploring dungeons, hunting trinkets, or looking for secret boss triggers. Swap back to boss kit before any major fight.
These combinations have been specifically called out in community threads as disproportionately strong. None are patched as of launch — use them if you want to cruise through late-game bosses.
| Combo | Why It’s Broken | Best Used With |
|---|---|---|
| Shock Flint + any weapon | Adds a projectile on every hit that triggers at point-blank range, effectively increasing your DPS by ~50% in melee. Reddit calls it "one of the most broken trinkets." | Blaststrike Maul (huge single hits get the largest percentage boost); also strong on Battery Buster |
| Chain Capacitor + Whisper & Vesper + offensive sidearm | The daggers’ rapid hit rate charges Chain Capacitor in 2–3 burrow-in cycles. You can fire the empowered sidearm 3–4 times per boss fight instead of 1–2. | Any high-damage sidearm; the combo is particularly oppressive on bosses with vulnerable phases |
| Battery Buster + high Attack Bone Ups + full mobility suite | A fully-upgraded Burst Shot with maximum Attack can delete boss phases in a single window. Mobility trinity (Keri + Bellows + Iron Lung) means you are almost never in danger while charging. | All bosses; particularly strong against large hitbox bosses where melee charging is easy |
| Nightstar + Iron Lung + Keri + Bellows | Midrange reach + extended burrow + float + air dash means you are almost never in danger. Repeatedly described as making the game "feel dramatically easier." Not flashy but extremely consistent. | All content; ideal for blind first runs or players who want a stress-free experience |
| Blaststrike Maul + invincibility trinket + Shock Flint | Invincibility during Boom Charge removes the main risk of the slow swing. Shock Flint adds flat damage on top of an already-massive hit. Some players call this "delete a boss phase" combo. | Bosses with long, predictable attack windows; less effective on fast aggressive bosses |
Your build will and should change as you unlock more trinket slots and find more trinkets. Here is how the community recommends building over the course of a first run.
Priority: survive and learn mechanics
Weapon: Nightstar recommended for safety. Do not worry about optimising damage yet — survivability has more value in the early hours than DPS.
Priority: maximise weapon identity and split boss/explore kits
Consider switching to Battery Buster or Whisper & Vesper if you want higher damage output in the final region. The skill investment pays off in the Astral Orrery’s more demanding boss fights.
| Stage | Slot 1 | Slot 2 | Slot 3 | Slot 4 | Slot 5 | Slot 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Early (3 slots) | Iron Lung | Primed Vial Pouch | Keri the Wisp | — | — | — |
| Mid (4–5 slots) | Iron Lung | Keri the Wisp | Bellows Bustle | Attack Bone Up | Proto Spark | — |
| Late Boss Kit | Iron Lung | Attack Bone Up | Defense Bone Up | Proto Spark | Weapon Synergy* | Shock Flint / Chain Cap |
| Late Explore Kit | Keri the Wisp | Bellows Bustle | Iron Lung | All-Seeing Skull | Primed Vial Pouch | Steady Soles |
*Weapon Synergy = Steady Soles (Nightstar), Chain Capacitor (Daggers), or Invincibility trinket (Blaststrike Maul).
The general rule: if your weapon is short-range and fast, take sidearms with reach or area control. If your weapon is slow but powerful, use sidearms as safe pokes between commitment windows.
| Weapon | Recommended Sidearm Type | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Battery Buster | Space-control / straight-shot ranged | Doesn’t disrupt charge rhythm; covers vertical range while charging at ground level |
| Nightstar | Precise or vertical sidearms (e.g., Drill Driver) | Covers enemies above or at range when you don’t want to commit to a full swing arc |
| Whisper & Vesper | Wide-arc or area-control sidearms | Compensates for short reach; combined with Chain Capacitor, frequent use makes any powerful sidearm excellent |
| Guardian Casket | Strong offensive ranged sidearms | Casket outputs low damage between parries; the sidearm carries much of the DPS |
| Blaststrike Maul | Reach / safe-poke sidearms | Fills the gap between slow Boom Charge windows; lets you maintain pressure without committing to the swing |

Whip Knight (Nightstar + Iron Lung + Keri the Wisp + Primed Vial Pouch). It is the most forgiving build in the game due to Nightstar’s long reach and the extended burrow provided by Iron Lung. Repeatedly described by the community as making the game "feel dramatically easier." Not the highest DPS, but the most reliable for blind boss attempts.
Dagger Storm (Whisper & Vesper + Chain Capacitor + Attack Bone Ups + mobility). The daggers’ rapid hit rate charges Chain Capacitor in 2–3 burrow sessions, enabling frequent empowered sidearm bursts on top of raw dagger DPS. Requires confident burrow timing — recommended for second playthroughs or experienced players.
Shock Flint. It adds a projectile on every hit that deals significant additional damage at point-blank range — Reddit called it "one of the most broken trinkets." It is particularly powerful on Blaststrike Maul (huge single hits) and Battery Buster (frequent melee contacts during charging phases).
Priority order for a new player: Iron Lung (extends burrow, biggest impact) → Primed Vial Pouch (more healing) → Keri the Wisp (mobility and repositioning). Buy the Trinket Bag upgrade to expand from 4 to 6 slots as soon as it appears in a shop.
You can switch at any time at no cost. Many players start with Nightstar and switch to Battery Buster or Whisper & Vesper for the late game and Astral Orrery bosses once they know enemy patterns. Your weapon choice does not lock you into anything — upgrade investments carry to your weapon stats, not weapon-specific locks.
Chain Capacitor charges with every weapon hit. The charge builds faster with higher hit-rate weapons. When fully charged, your next sidearm activation or weapon special deals significantly increased damage. With Whisper & Vesper, you reach full charge 3–4x faster than with slower weapons, making it the core of the Dagger Storm build.
